2017 Begins As A Different Kind of Year

Year Starts Off With Roller Coaster Ride In Temperatures
The first week in January, 2017 saw Sulphur experiencing what might be called “roller coaster weather.” Temperatures tumbled to near zero, and a few inches of snow covered the area. Within only a few days citizens were trading their coats for T-shirts as the thermometer rose into the 70’s. A few days more, the forecast predicted another winter storm moving in.
However, there was a January ice storm and the state experienced high wildfire danger during the year.
Those few fluctuating weather days were just about all of the weather excitement for the year. Looking back to recent years, Sulphur had milder weather, warmer temperatures even in winter, and no tornado tragedies in 2017. The droughts and flooding from recent years were just a memory.
