Sept. 16 Proclaimed As ‘American Legion Centennial Day’

Editor’s Note: This is the fourth story in continuous coverage of the American Legion Centennial Celebration in 2019. A final wrap-up is planned for publication in November.

This month features a significant date in the 100-year history of the American Legion, the nation’s largest veterans service organization. September 16 officially is “American Legion Centennial Day.” That date was when the U.S. Congress chartered the new American Legion organization in 1919.
