Council Denies Tort Claim By Woman Who Fell In Flower Bed

Sulphur City Council members voted to deny a tort claim filed by a Shawnee woman at their monthly meeting Monday night.
Julia Fairchild filed the claim after she fell in a downtown flower bed resulting in hitting a rock and injuring her nose. After investigating the situation, insurance companies and OMAG deemed that the city was not negligent in the case as the flowers having no walking stones or walk-ways in them. The woman then filed the tort claim but council members voted to deny the request which asked for $1,000 in medical expenses and $7,000 for pain and suffering.
