Eclipse Viewing Set At Nature Center

Countdown On For Unique Celestial Event

The countdown is on for the Monday, Aug. 21, total solar eclipse. Chickasaw National Recreation Area is inviting the public to visit and share in this rare experience. Activities at the Travertine Nature Center will begin at 10:30 a.m. and last through 2:30 p.m. The peak of the eclipse is at 1:08 p.m.

When viewed from the park’s Sulphur location, about 81 percent of the sun will be obscured by the moon’s shadow. Travertine Nature Center will have a solar telescope onsite along with eclipse-themed activities. Eclipse glasses will be available through the park’s Western National Parks Association bookstore.
