Old Courthouse Tower Comes Down

Chickasaw Communications and TNT Crane Company of Elmore City removed a more than 50-year-old radio tower from atop the Murray County Courthouse last Saturday. The tower, which was in danger of collapsing and was only being held in place by one bolt and guide wires, was replaced by a new radio tower a few months ago.The new tower is located on the west side of the Murray County Jail. Murray County was assisted by the Chickasaw Nation in constructing the new tower.

Workers are shown in closeup photo, in inset, making preparations for the tower’s removal.

The cell tower to the right of the communications tower in the photo above was not affected by the project Saturday.
