School Board OKs Extra Duty Pay
The Sulphur Board of Education approved the extra-duty pay scale for the 2019-2020 school year totalling more than $98,000 not including any sports. The action was taken at their regular monthly meeting Monday night. The approval came following a short executive session. Members also approved the hiring of Mintana Wilkins as a SES Para-Professional.
In other board action, members approved the adoption of a Public Presentation Policy for board meetings. The policy allows for a time limit for speakers, subject matters, no use of student names plus other restrictions.
Superintendent Holder presented the financial report to board members. “We are in good shape financially”, Holder said. Holder did tell board members that 85-86% of the school budget is used for salaries and salary costs adding that the new pay raise to teachers and staff has increased payroll expenditures by approximately $400,00.00 this year. The board approved the financial report.
During the superintendent’s report, Holder praised the building principals, stating October is Principal’s Month. Holder told the principals he appreciate all the hard work they do for the students and usually with little or no praise. He also told members the cheerleaders placed fourth at state; Kirsten Walck placed fourth in sheep division at the Tulsa State Fair and the softball girls would be heading to state on Thursday. He also advised the board of several new committees he has formed among teachers and staff to better serve the needs of students.
