School In Good Financial Shape, Treasurer Says
The Sulphur Board of Education approved a resolution calling for the annual school board election at the regular monthly meeting Monday night.
The filing dates for the election will be held December 2-4, 2019. The primary election (if needed) is set for February 11, 2020 with the general election will be April 7, 2020. The Board position up for election is office 5, currently held by Tammy Key Scrugham.
David Harp, school treasurer, presented the financial report to the board. Harp told members with four months into the new fiscal year, everything looks good financially. He reported cash balances for the various school funds as of October 21, 2019 and they are as follows: general fund $2,317,763.33; building fund $364,691.33; child nutrition fund $193,423.37; bond fund $1,682,202.41, sinking fund $513,478.67 and the gift fund $40,674.55.
Following the treasurers report, Superintendent Matt Holder presented the superintendent’s report and concurred with the school financial report. Holder also told members, with the increase in enrollment this year, he expects a positive mid-term adjustment from the state. The actual figures should be received by January 15, 2020. Holder also told members he has formed several advisory boards and committees and has received positive feedback from the meetings. The new recently purchased activity bus has been delivered and was at the administration office for members to see.
