A parched Murray County received a generous amount of rain Monday and Tuesday, but more will be needed to dent the extreme drought conditions much of southern Oklahoma has experienced since June. As of early Tuesday, about 2.90 inches of rain fell at the Oklahoma Mesonet site, just north of Sulphur. All total, Sulphur has had just 20.60 inches of rain this year and only 2.34 in the last 90 days prior to this week’s total. For a perspective on this year’s drought, the area received almost 38 inches of rain last year.
