Firemen Stop Advance Of Massive Blaze

Smoke billows high into the nighttime sky and flames were visible from miles around as a wildfire ravaged parts of Chickasaw National Recreation Area late Sunday and into Monday. The photo above was taken from Charles Cooper Memorial Rd, near Wal-Mart in Sulphur, late Sunday evening as flames raced toward populated areas of Sulphur and surrounding areas. The view is looking southeast over the Chickasaw Cultural Center. Sulphur Policeman, Keeton Haines, snapped this photo (in inset) from the shore of Veterans Lake, looking southeast from the dam as the giant fire spread northeast toward town.

Roads were closed and people living in homes adjacent to Chickasaw National Recreation Area were evacuated as a massive wildfire raced toward Sulphur late Sunday and early Monday.

SHS Scholastic Students Place In MSC Meet

Sulphur High School students recently competed at the Murray State College Scholastic Meet. A total of 26 local students competed in 33 different exams. Any student placing in the top 5 will advance to the Tournament of Champions to be held in May. Some of the winners are pictured above.
