Dorothy Faye Suther

August 10, 1941 – May 14, 2023 Dorothy Faye was born on August 10, 1941 to James Everett Suther and Goldie May Baker-Suther. Dorothy was the sixth child born of eight children. She is survived by her younger sister, Mary Leah Suther-Carper of Davis, and her youngest sister, Susan Paulette Suther-Christian of Stonewall.

She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews. Dorothy lived in Sulphur, at the home place for many years and recently resided in Burford Manor in Davis.

Having never married, Dorothy Faye enjoyed sharing her siblings children namely James Paul, Marianne, Susan Diann, James Douglas, David Wayne, Ramona Faye, Rebecca Leah, Roger Wayne, Christi Dianne, Billy James, Staci Nicole, Sherri Lynne, Joshua Allen, Jared Dean, and Shawn Allen. She had some interaction with her grand nieces and nephews also.

Dorothy Faye attended East Central University in Ada, where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Teaching, but didn’t teach until years later. She chose to move to Dallas, Texas where she was hired by Hart Insurance Company and worked there for a few years before being hired and working for Sun Oil Company. After working for many years, Dorothy retired and moved to Sulphur to care for her mother. Her most recent employment was to work for the Chickasaw Telephone Company for numerous years as a telephone operator and more recently as a substitute teacher and tutor for the Davis Public Schools.

At the age of 12, Dorothy surrendered her life to Jesus Christ when she became a born-again Christian. Proudly she would tell everyone she was proud to be a Christian and that she would go to live with Jesus when she died. Her fondest desire was to die in her chair in her home, but her declining health prevented it from happening.

Dorothy Faye Suther was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas then joined the First Baptist Church in Sulphur until her health issues prevented her from attending services.

Today, she will be missed by her family and her friends. She would urge everyone not to cry for her because she is with her family who are welcoming her to heaven, but especially she is in the arms of Jesus. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, May 18, 2023 at Crossway Baptist Church with Reverend Bill Leveridge officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery under the direction of DeArman Funeral Home in Sulphur.
