George was born May 31, 1931, in Roff, to the late Henry L. and Myrtle Ruth (Glasgow) Grantham. He passed from this life on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, at his home in Prairie View, at the age of 90 years, 10 months, and 26 days. George and the former Ms. Sue Dean Kirby were married on December 21, 1957, in Sulphur. This marriage was blessed with three children, Betty, Ricky, and George Dean.

George grew up in Prairie View, graduating from Stratford High School, Class of 1951. He spent his adult life working as a mechanic. Early in his career, he worked for Risner’s Arbuckle Sports Center in Davis. Later he worked for Boles Chevrolet, Edison Chevrolet, and Walmart, all of Sulphur. Throughout the final 20 years of his working career, he owned and operated the Grantham Garage, at his home in Prairie View.

George loved the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing and hunting for pretty much anything that moved. He had a great love for animals and made sure that all his animals were well fed and cared for. In his spare time, George enjoyed watching Old Western movies.

George was a very loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He cherished spending time with his family. George’s lifestyle was that of a “shepherd,” as he was always caring for and guiding his beloved family, as well as his animals.

Survivors include his loving wife, Sue Dean; daughter, Betty Carol Thurman and husband Eddie of Prairie View; son, George Dean Grantham and wife Janetta of Sulphur; three grandchildren, William Grantham and wife Ericka, Nina Brock, and Shawn Thurman and wife Tabatha; nine great-grandchildren, Haily, Tristen and Sage Grantham, Corbin Thurman, Matt, Ashton and Bailey Tims, and Jacob and Junior Brock; two sisters, Hazel Risner and Wanda Jean Wynn; two brothers, Preston and Billy Grantham; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
