Jodie Ross “Buster” Lathum

Graveside services, with military honors, for Jodie Ross “Buster” Lathum, 65, Sulphur, will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 23, at the Wynnewood View Cemetery with Pastor Willard McCartney, Jr. officiating. Services are entrusted to Hale’s Funeral Home of Davis.

Jodie was born January 17, 1951 in Wynnewood to the late Ted and Maude (Smith) Lathum. He died Sunday, Nov. 20, in Sulphur. Jodie and the former Marsha Lynn Nelson were married on June 28, 2001 in Ardmore.

Jodie grew up in Davis, where he attended school. He was drafted in the U.S. Army and served three years during the Vietnam War. After being honorably discharged, Jodie returned to Oklahoma, where he spent several years working in the oilfield in the Woodward area.

Following a decline in the oilfield industry, Jodie attended carpentry school and studied painting. He spent several years painting trains, prior to a work injury that left him disabled. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife Marsha; daughter, Traci, Woodward; five step children, Heidi Hussey, Christi Hallum, Kim Richardson, Brandon Cothren and Sam Hussey; two grandchildren; two sisters, Alma Morgan and Linda Shultz and husband Jim, of Davis; eight step-grandchildren, one step great-grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as his first wife, Sherrie Lathum and her son, Jason. In addition to his parents, Jodie was preceded in death by two sisters, June Latham and Wanda McKee and one brother, Harold Lathum.
