Graveside services, with military honors, for Marion Davis Collins, 93, Sulphur, were held 2:00 p.m., Monday, Nov. 14, at Oaklawn Cemetery in Sulphur with Pastor Willard McCartney, Jr officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Hale’s Funeral Home of Sulphur.
Marion was born September 26, 1923 in Longview, Texas to the late Morris “Burley” and Sestus (Burkhart) Collins. He died Wednesday, Nov 9, in Sulphur.
Marion and the former Ms Jean McCurry were married on August 8, 1942. Following her death in April 1998, he and Mary Frances Long were married on June 10, 1998 in Dequeen, Ark.
Marion grew up in the Wapanucka area where he attended school. He joined the United States Army on January 31, 1945 in Oklahoma City and proudly served in France and Germany, during WWII. He was honorably discharged from the Army on July 17, 1946 at Ft Sam Houston, Texas. Marion spent 35+ years working for Dolese Bro., Inc. He also spent 18 years working as a self-employed plumber, owning and operating Collins Plumbing of Sulphur. He and Mary enjoyed dancing and traveled around the state doing so. Marion was a loyal member of the American Legion, as well as, a member of the Midway Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife Mary; one son, Melvin “Butch” Collins, Wynnewood; one step-son, Robert Mills; six grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two sisters, Johnny Lou Peters and Darlene Truett and five brothers, Jim, Durett, Dewayne, Burk and Vernon Collins.
In addition to his parents and first wife; Marion was preceded in death by one son, Tommy Collins; grandson, Tony Collins; two sisters, Bobby and Burlene and one brother, Felix.
