Memories of Mattie Baker
This week we have the Indian Pioneer Paper of Mrs. Mattie Baker. This oral history was recorded by W. P. A. writer Maurice Anderson on September 16, 1937 at Mrs. Baker’s residence in Pauls Valley.
I was born on March 17, 1872 in Arkansas. Father was W. L. Roady, born in Tennessee. Mother was Margaret Smithon also born in Tennessee.
I came to the Indian Territory with my father and mother in 1888. We came from Arkansas in a covered wagon. We first settled at Pauls Valley and my father rented some land on the east side of the railroad track at Pauls Valley.
