The Story Of The Buffalo Knives

I am a knife maker. I decided to make a knife that would mark, not celebrate, the end of an outstanding period of American history. It was the killing-off of the American Bison. The knife is called the Green River Skinner. It is a long-curved blade butcher knife. I embedded the cartridge head of the ammo used into the handle, 45-70. This would mark one of the saddest periods in American history.

In 1826, Col. Dodge and a troop of U.S. Dragoons were on a patrol in northern part of the Cherokee Outlet in what later became the State of Oklahoma. The troop was forced to wait five hours for a heard of buffalo to cross their path. The officers estimated that the heard size was close to 1,000,000 animals.
