Memories Of Wylie Bearden

My parents were Kenyon Bearden and Elizabeth Black Bearden, both born in Georgia (dates nknown). Father was a farmer. There were six children in our family. I was born in Chattanooga, Georgia in 1842. When the Civil War began, I volunteered and served in the Confederate Army. My company was nearly wiped out in the Battle of Shiloh, but I escaped, due to the fact that I had pneumonia and typhoid fever and couldn’t fight. They left me at a house to recuperate.

Twenty years ago, the world stood still as our nation experienced the deadliest terrorist attack on our own soil. On this somber anniversary of September 11, 2001, we remember the nearly three thousand innocent bystanders and first responders who lost their lives due to the attacks on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and Flight 93 and honor those whose lives were forever changed on this fatal day.

Last week, 13 heroic Americans lost their lives in a tragic and preventable terrorist attack at the Kabul airport. While we have heartbreakingly learned about who each of these service members were over the past week, we can be undoubtedly proud that our country produces such amazing young people who choose to put service above self.

State To Receive Funds Under Rescue Act

Under the American Rescue Act Plan (ARPA), Oklahoma will be receiving around $3.19 billion for state and local governments. Close to $1.9 billion will go directly to our state government to be used to respond to the public health emergency and negative effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Under federal guidelines, appropriate uses include providing funds for state agencies, nonprofits, industry, households, and public infrastructure.
