Boys Golf Team Battles To 8th After Meet’s First Day
The Sulphur boys golf team battled their way to a solid finish after the first day of the Class 3A State Tournament at Tulsa Country Club on Monday. The Dogs sit in 8th place after the first day, shooting team totals of 344 and 334. Sulphur is 19 shots behind Victory Christian in 7th and 14 ahead of Seminole. The Dogs got off to a tough start, but cleaned a few things up at lunch and were able to better themselves by 10 strokes on the second round of 18. “The boys bounced back nicely on the back 18,” said Sulphur head coach Chase Todd. “The course is very challenging and playing extremely long due to the rain.” “We are hoping to make our move tomorrow and see if we can improve our positioning,” Todd said. A lot of that was thanks in part to Hunter Mann, who improved off his 1st round score of 84 to shoot 75 in the afternoon. Mann currently sits in 20th place individually. “Hunter played really well on the second 18,” Todd said. “He was hitting the ball really well.” Dawson Hinson shot 82 in the 1st round and 85 in the final 18. He sits in 33rd overall. Mason Lance shot 86 in both rounds and isn’t far behind, in 44th place. Dawson Padgett shot 92-88 and TJ Horn shot 102-107. Sulphur finished up the state tournament on Tuesday, with one more round of 18 holes. Final results will be in next week’s issue.
