Sulphur kicker Kyle Stevenson was perfect in last Friday night’s win over Bethel with 10 extra points and kick-offs all inside the 10. The feat earned him the Player of the Week honors.
Dogs Head To Purcell Friday
Sulphur will take a trip north this week for another district contest, when they face Purcell on Friday night. The Dogs (4-0) rolled over Bethel in the district opener last Friday, winning 63-13. Purcell (1-3) got blown out by Plainview in its’ first district contest, losing 56-0. But Sulphur head coach Jim Dixon says this Purcell squad is much better than the record indicates. “They have some talent and have been banged up,” Dixon said. “They have a great quarterback and a really good running back. They have two good receivers, too.” “They lost a lot of their offensive line early on, but two or three may be back against us Friday. We will see. Either way, we have to be ready to play.” The Dragons opened the season with a 42-14 drubbing of Lindsay at home. They fell to Washington 38-8 and then Lexington 27-12 before last week’s loss to Plainview.
For the Dogs, it will be more of the same, as Dixon wants them to focus on creating havoc defensively and sustaining drives on offense.
