Girls Come Up One Game Short In State Bid

The Sulphur Lady Bulldogs season came to an end last weekend, as they fell to Newcastle in the regional tournament. Sulphur (31-9) lost to Newcastle twice over the weekend and the final time, in the regional championship. “It was a great year for us,” said Sulphur head coach Heath Gilbert.

“We tied the school record with 31 wins.” Gilbert spoke about his resilient bunch and their consistency through the year “We had an unbelievably hard nosed group of girls and a gritty team,” Gilbert said.

“We had about five girls play through injuries at regionals.” The Lady Dogs won in the first round of regionals, smoking Elgin 22-2. They had to face Newcastle in the semifinals, with the winner advancing to the finals.
