Lady Dogs Win 2 Doubleheaders In Recent Action
It was a short week last week due to rain, but the Lady Dogs picked up two more wins, rolling over Riverside in a double header on Thursday.
Sulphur (13-3) had its’ games Friday vs. Plainview rained out, the day after the Lady Dogs cruised to two wins over Riverside, beating the Indians 11-1 and 12-0.
Earlier last week the Lady Dogs took care of Crooked Oak, winning 11-0 and 10-0.
“It was a weird week for us,” said Sulphur head coach Heath Gilbert. “Earlier in the week we got two wins over Crooked Oak and followed it up with two more against Riverside. They were an improved team.”
Gilbert talked about how the rain outs and winning via four runrules impacted his team last week.
“We didn’t get much accomplished last week, getting to play only 12 innings and having two rainouts,” he said. “But we were better at the plate and hopefully that continues.”
The Lady Dogs were at Lexington on Tuesday for a huge game. Sulphur needs to win to have a shot at hosting districts and regionals.
“It’s a huge game for us,” he said. “If we don’t win we have around a 20% chance to host and will have a hard time being district champs.”
Lexington beat the Lady Dogs 11-1 earlier this season.
