Dogs Win Consolation Title In Byng Tourney

Jamin Mathis and Roman Bradford, 2nd graders at Veritas Christian School in Sulphur, recently competed in the Ada New Year’s Basketball Tournament. Their team, Project 94, coached by Levi Mathis, left, won the championship. Jamin Mathis was named the tournament MVP, after he totaled 54 points during the four tournament games.
Sulphur powerlifting is ready to get back into action this spring, as the Dogs look to win their 5th state championship in a row.

Brackets for this week’s Ada Nissan/Byng Winter Classic basketball tournament are shown above and below. The Bulldogs, above bracket, will open the meet on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. opposite Tecumseh and the girls, below bracket, will meet Eisenhower on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. Games will continue on Friday and Saturday.
Both Sulphur basketball teams are back in action this week after a week off, as last week’s games against Madill and Dickson were canceled due to COVID issues.
The Sulphur boy’s basketball team is undergoing early stages of a renaissance under new head coach, Grant Bates. The team, pictured above, came close, but were just a few points away from winning the prestigious Charles K. Heatly Invitational Tournament in Lindsay last week, winning the runner-up title after two impressive wins to open the tournament.
