Colten Cole Hits Grand Slam In 16-6 Home Win
Storms were not enough to stop the Sulphur Bulldog baseball, who now stand at 16-6.
The Bulldogs beat Ardmore twice, 14-3 at home, then 10-5 away.
At home, Colten Cole batted in 5 runs, including a grand slam to center field.
Trabor Sartors, Luke Linville and Bridge Barrett had two hits each. Linville and Cash Matlack hit doubles.
Barrett also started on the mound, and Hayden Raymo came in as relief.
At Ardmore, the Bulldogs fell to 5-1 in the second inning, only to rally for the 10-5 win.
“We scratched and clawed to create a late rally in the sixth,” said Coach Mike Matlack.
Senior Jett Runyan pitched 4 innings of relief to get the win.
Linville and Barrett each had 2 hits, with Linville batting in 4 runs.
Despite the weekend storms, Sulphur managed to play two games at the Kingston Tournament.
First was a 4-3 loss to Lone Grove in seven innings.
“Unfortunately we were not able to execute offensively in the middle innings,” said Coach Matlack.
At the top of the seventh, the game was tied at 3, but Lone Grove scored a run on a sacrifice bunt.
Then, the Bulldogs defeated Lindsay 8-0.
“Saturday I was very proud of the way our boys bounced back from a tough loss,” Coach Matlack said.
Barrett pitched 5 scoreless innings, racking up 9 strikeouts on the way to a shutout.
Linville batted in 4 runs, including two on a triple in teh fifth inning.
Sulphur will host Roff on Thursday and Mount Saint Mary on Monday. They will travel to Mount Saint Mary on Tuesday.
