Sulphur’s Airport Fuel Station Almost Ready

Several Inspections, Permit Await Before Fueling Can Begin

Pilots wanting to fuel up at the SulphurAirport will have to wait a while longer even though the fuel tank now holds 8,148 gallons of fuel. Council members approved payment for the fuel in the amount of $29,471.26 at a special called meeting of the board last Friday evening at 5:00 p.m.

City Manager Andy Freeman told members that, although the fuel is in place, there are still several inspections that must be done along with getting a permit certificate from the Oklahoma Corporation Commission before any fuel can be sold.

Members approved the purchase of the $25.00 certificate following the inspections.

The fuel was purchased at a cost of $3.61 per gallon and will sell for $4.50 per gallon.

Members approved a bid from environmental Action, Inc. (EAI) in the amount of $32,399.53 plus CAP fee of $1,095.67 for asbestos abatement in the city owned Arbuckle Historical Museum.

The tornado disaster consultant company, Del Sol, presented several bids to the city and EAI was the lowest bidder.

An agenda item for the location of the fire department sub station based on funding resources was again discussed at the meeting. In the regular April meeting, members approved rebuilding the fire department sub-station that was destroyed in the tornado, back in the same location. Insurance money and some grant funds have been received to rebuild the structure that houses some of the tankers, trucks and equipment for the fire department. Freeman told the board the Oklahoma Emergency Grant for approximately $130,000.00 was no longer available. After more discussion, members again voted to rebuild in same location as previously approved.

Members approved a quote from Alpha One Firetrucks, LLC to repair the pump on Engine 4 in the amount of $29,404.00.

In the Sulphur Municipal Authority portion of the special meeting, the board approved the request by Downey Contracting for a 42-day stop work order on the test water well drilling pending water quality data for Rockfish Imaging.

Other items approved were payment of $295,00 to Auto Trim Design for vehicle decals for sanitation truck and a quote from O’Reillys for $3,839.00 to replace an engine in a 2009 Chevrolet truck in the water department. Other quotes were received from Auto Zone and Mike Helleck Chevrolet.

Ward 4 Councilman Ryan Peters was absent at the meeting.
