Girls Place 8th In State Tournament; Boys End Season In Regionals With 9th Place Finish

Sulphur Bulldog golf finished their season ninth in the Regional Tournament in Weatherford.

“There were a lot of good scores shot. It was the toughest regional top to bottom in the class,” Coach Grant Bates said.

Heritage Hall won the region with an overall total of 576. Sulphur finished at 685, which was 47 strokes behind state qualifier and fourth place finisher Elk City.

The tournament featured 36 holes in one day, double what regular season tournaments have.

“So it tests your ability to stay mentally focused and bounce back from a bad swing or a bad hole,” Bates said. “Every one of our golfers responded with a better back 18 than front 18. I was proud of that, in the end we didn’t advance.”

Seniors Jett Terry andAlec Ivy missed qualifying for the State Tournament individually by a couple of strokes. Terry shot 83-79, placing 24th, and Ivy shot 84-81, placing 27th.

“We were upset we didn’t get the result we wanted, but we competed and all stayed focused until the very last shot,” Bates said.

Freshman Kaden Cleveland shot 95-84, senior Trey Anderson shot 92-90, and freshman Wyatt Clark shot 101-89.

“Thank you to the seniors for your commitment over the last 4 years to the sulphur golf program, you will be missed,” Bates said.
