Davis Senior Dies In Accident Just Days From Her Graduation

A Davis High School senior, just days away from her graduation ceremony, was killed in a single-vehicle accident near Springer in Carter County last Friday, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

A Davis Public School Facebook post identified the graduate-to-be killed near Springer as Averiee Osmundson,18, of Springer.

Troopers said Osmundson was driving a 2005 Lexus RX 330 eastbound on Foothill Rd., about 7:36 a.m. on May 10, when her vehicle went off the road about three miles north of Springer. The patrol said Osmundson over-corrected and the vehicle reentered the road before overturning an unknown number of times.

Osmundson was ejected about 78 feet from the point where the vehicle came to rest, according to the patrol.

The accident site is about .4 miles west of U.S. 77, troopers said.

Other aspects of the crash remain under investigation.

According to the patrol, seatbelts were not in use.

Osmundson was reportedly traveling to training at Southern Tech when the accident happened.

Counseling is being offered this week to Davis students and Davis Public Schools are planning to honor Osmundson’s memory during this week’s graduation ceremonies and other events.

Davis Superintendent Jamea Gilbert referred to Osmundson as a “ray of sunshine,” always eager to help others and spending free time tutoring younger students.

“She always had a smile on her face every time I saw her, she was very quick to always smile and she was such a solid, cheerful soul,” Gilbert said in local media reports.

“I think most of all just pray for her friends and family and our student body as we endure this loss and try to honor her and celebrate her every chance we get,” Gilbert added.
