Severe Storm Slams Area

A brief, but intense storm packing strong winds and hail battered Sulphur and Murray County Monday afternoon as a large, upper level system moved in from the west.

Many areas eastern two-thirds of the state were under a tornado watch for most of the day and several reports of tornadoes were issued by the National Weather Service for locations in southern and southeastern Oklahoma.

The system that pummeled Sulphur with golf ball size hail and 52-miles-per-hour wind quickly moved east and spawned a strong tornado northeast of Ada in the Atwood area, according to reports.

There was no major damage reported in Sulphur from the storm.
