Chickasaw Incumbents Win Seats After Filing Unopposed

Five Chickasaw Nation candidates seeking four legislative seats and one judicial seat filed without opposition last week and will automatically be seated when the new legislature and court convenes.

Chickasaw Nation Election Secretary Jerri Martin said the filing period for the general election closed on Wednesday, June 4.

Filing without opposition were:

•Panola District Seat 1 incumbent legislator Beth Alexander, Colbert.

•Pickens District Seat 3 incumbent legislator Charles Marris, Marietta.

•Pontotoc District Seat 5 incumbent legislator Lisa J. Billy, Lindsay.

•Tishomingo District Seat 2 incumbent legislator Derrick Priddy, Sulphur.

•Incumbent Seat 1 Supreme Court Justice Mark Colbert, Ardmore The five candidates will be elected by a one-vote margin, as the act of filing for office shall be counted as an affirmative vote, according to Marin.
