The City of Sulphur and Murray County benefited from a slight upward trend in sales tax collections for the months of April and May, while the City of Davis was down markedly, according to the Oklahoma Tax Commission figures.
Sulphur collected about $9,000 more in tax revenue from last year’s total and Murray County was some $3,000 higher, but Davis’ figures declined over $32,000 from the previous year’s total, figures show.
The monies cities and counties were returned represent sales from April 16 to April 30 and estimated sales from May 1 to the May 15.
For the period, Sulphur collected $296,823.86 compared to $291,905.41 last year at this time. Murray County’s total disbursement for the period was $365,650.75 compared to $362,935.90 last year, while Davis’ total came in $100,394.06, down from $132,681.36 last year. The community of Dougherty was down also, going from $579.85 last year to $279.52 this year.
In use tax collections, Davis gained slightly from a year ago, going from $16,045.05 last year to $18,194.89 this year.
However, the City of Sulphur and Murray County were significantly down in use tax collections. Sulphur was down nearly one-half from last year’s total, going from $27,123.78 this year during the period compared to $53,146.84 last year. Murray County also reported a sharp decline, going from $78,287.77 last year to $47,446.06 this year.
Statewide, a disbursement of over $201 million was returned to cities and towns, reflecting an increase of nearly $7 million. The use tax disbursement to cities and towns was $36,620,911.
Oklahoma’s 77 counties shared in a $35,436,529 sales tax disbursement and $7,416,188 in a use tax disbursement.
