Denton Miller To Lead Baseball Program; Will Coffman To Take Over Reins As Dog’s Offensive Coordinator
With the 2025-26 sports’ seasons just on the horizon, several new coaching hires at Sulphur High School could be just be what the doctor ordered.
Recently, the Sulphur Board of Education hired Denton Miller as new baseball coach and Will Coffman as assistant football coach. Also hired earlier in the spring was Les Kirby as new girl’s basketball coach, a position he once held.
Miller will take over a successful baseball program next spring and will also serve as assistant football coach.
Coffman will head up one of the most explosive offenses in the state this fall when he takes over the reins as Bulldog offensive coordinator.
Speaking about the newest hires, Sulphur Athletic Director and head football coach Corey Cole said Coffman and Miller will give the Bulldogs a big chance at success in the upcoming seasons.
“We are so excited to add two quality men to our coaching staff in Will Coffman and Denton Miller,” Cole said. “Both of these guys are natural leaders and hard workers who have both grown up in the education world and understand the time and commitment it takes to be a successful teacher/coach.
Cole said Coffman will serve as the Dog’s offensive coordinator in football and take over play calling duties.
“He is a very detailed and organized young man who will bring a toughness to the explosive offense that we established last year,” said Cole. “He has coached at Plainview for the past few years and played at Marlow for some great coaches while he was in high school.”
Miller, according to Cole, will bring a new level excitement and enthusiasm to both the baseball and football programs.
“Coach Miller brings excitement and enthusiasm to everything he does, we are anxious to see where he takes our baseball program as he takes over a program that has been very competitive the past few years,” said Cole.
Miller will also serve as assistant football coach for the Bulldogs. He has coached at Jones most recently where he has been a part of very successful baseball and football programs.
“I am excited for both of these guys as they bring in a youthful energy to our coaching staff,” said Cole. “Both of these guys know and understand the culture and standards that we have here in Sulphur and we are excited to see them take our athletic programs to new heights.”
Miller will take over a baseball program headed up by Mike Matlack for the past several years and Coffman will assume command of the explosive football offense led last year by Channing Hickman.
“You always hate to see coaches leave,” said Cole, “but it’s a part of the process in this business, but we feel very blessed that we were able to hire two guys who we feel will make impacts on our student athletes and community beyond the playing fields.”
Miller said he is excited to be in Sulphur. “My wife, Cara, and I are beyond excited to get back to Southern Oklahoma and join the great community of Sulphur,” he said. “We believe Sulphur is a great spot for us to make home and raise our daughter, Demi.
“In my short time with the kids, I have experienced the great culture here at Sulphur Public Schools. In my baseball program, I intend to add to that culture and help develop our student athletes into great young men.

New Coaches
I am looking forward to a great year! Go Dogs!
Coffman was equally proud to be in what he called a special place. “Sulphur is a special place with strong community support and a winning culture,” he said. “I’ve already met so many great people, and I’m eager to get to work.
“Growing up in Marlow, I know Sulphur has tough and hard-working kids. I guarantee we’re going to be physical, play fearless, and represent this town the right way.
I’m honored to be calling plays for the Bulldogs and help continue the tradition of excellence this program is known for.”
