The Sulphur High School basketball team has had plenty of action this summer, completing camps at Washington andAnadarko before a final stint at Southeastern University in Durant where they faced off against several Texas teams.
Sulphur head coach Grant Bates said the Dogs competed against perennial 4A powers Blanchard and Anadarko and then got a taste of Texas style roundball in the Southeastern camp, which he believes will help his team improve in the upcoming season.
After completing activities at Southeastern, the Dogs returned home and participated in a third through high school grade skills’ camp, mentored by overseas professional stars Sheron-Dorsey Walker, a former Iowa State basketball player, and Xavier Cork, a former TCU basketball player.
Bates said the last three weeks was a great experience for his current and future team and he is looking forward to the new season.
“We learned a lot about our depth and youth at the team camps,” he said. “A lot of guys got opportunities and it will help us hit the ground running come basketball season. We got better each game and started playing some better ball toward the end of camp. At the skills’ camp our guys got to hear a couple different voices and what it takes to excel on and off the court. I was pleased with our effort and attentiveness to work toward being a good basketball team. I’m looking forward to the sports seasons this year and our continued success.”
