ABOVE: The Travertine Nature Center is a “hidden gem” in the Chickasaw National Recreation Area. The 9,500 square foot historically significant building dates to 1969, when it was part of Platt National Park. The structure has survived the 2024 tornado well, and still inspires and educates tens of thousands of visitors each year. INSET: The nature center facility spans Travertine Creek, which flows under this portion of the structure. The building was designed to be in harmony with its environment through use of natural stone and wood.
