Pitching, Hitting To Bolster Team As They Begin Fall Campaign
Sulphur head girl’s softball coach, Heath Gilbert, is very optimistic going into the new season, especially considering the team had a great preseason along with some more experience than last year.
The girls begin the fall campaign at Madill on August 11 and at Washington on August 12. Both begin at 5:00 p.m.
“We are looking to have a great season building from last year’s young bunch,” said Gilbert. “We have had a great summer record (8-2) and we plan on carrying on with that style of ball starting the season.”
Pitching should be one of the areas where the Bulldogs could be solid, according to Gilbert.
“Our outstanding two pitchers, Kensley Rochelle and Cheyenne Ruth, should carry us throughout the season,” he said. “But we plan on these guys making unbelievable plays in the field all year.”
Gilbert said his infield should also be a solid group. They include Zoli May, Landri Jordyn and Destrie Muck with Zavannah Patrick holding down the catching duties.
Gilbert envisions Sydnie Halley, Elisha Reagle and others filling in to round out the defense in the outfield.
One area where the Lady Bulldogs have excelled in preseason games is in the hitting department.
“Our hitting has really stellar this summer and we have been scoring lots of runs,” said Gilbert. “We plan on being right where we left off last year… in that regional championship game and going to the super regionals with a chance to go to state.”
