Sulphur High Schools boys and girls cross country teams launched the season this week with practice sessions in anticipation of their first meet August 16 at Dickson.
Both boys and girls team had a successful 2024 season, each finishing in the top 10 at the class 4A state meet (boys 7th and girls 9th).
The boys are led by Coach Emile Heitland and Kari Seitz will coach the girls.
“It’s very exciting to have so many returning starters back for 2025,” said Heitland.
The boys have six of their top seven coming back from last year’s successful team. They will be paced by Korbin Mayo who has the 4th fastest 5k time in school history, said Heitland.
The girls team will welcome back five of their top seven from last year.
They will be led by Jayden Lee, who holds the school record in the 2-mile event and Paxtyn Hiser, who has the 2nd fastest time in school history.
“The cross country team has put in a lot of work and mileage this summer to put themselves in position for another strong performance in 2025,” said Heitland.
After the practice meet at Dickson August 16, the teams will travel to Marietta on Saturday, Aug. 23 for their first official outing of the season, then to Marietta on Saturday, Aug. 30 to round out the August slate.
