Sulphur Will Have Lots Of Playmakers To Start Season
Last year’s Sulphur Bulldogs broke several records en route to a silver ball and were ranked among the highest scoring teams in the country, 16th in the nation to be exact.
But, while graduation took a toll on the roster to some degree, there are still a lot of familiar faces who will bring big-time playmaking ability to this year’s team, said head coach Corey Cole.
This week, Cole previewed the offensive team as the Dogs officially launch the new season with their first practice session on August 11. New offensive coordinator Will Coffman will have plenty of talent to spread around the field as he settles into his new job, but he will have to learn fast as the Dogs open the season against three-time state champion, Washington Warriors, at home on Friday, Sept. 5 Cole said this week the Dog’s offense will stay with the up-tempo play, balancing run and pass, but with some new wrinkles added to the playbook.
The Dogs will be led by Navy commit and senior, Maddax Mobly, one of the their most prolific running backs ever.
Last season, Mobly had 701 receiving yards and 8 TD’s along with 963 yards rushing and another 21 TD’s. “These numbers are incredible because he split time at running back the majority of the season and didn’t play in the second half of 7 different games,” said Cole. “Mobly finished the season with over 2,200 all-purpose yards and 32 TD’s, he is one of the most dynamic players in the state and
