Bats Alive As Lady Dogs Humble Madill, 28-1

Girls Launch Season With Spectacular Win

“I’ve had a lot of really good teams in Sulphur the last 15 years, but I’ve never had a team hit the ball like that. It was a great day at the plate. And Kinsley Rochelle pitched a great game. ”

Those were the comments of Sulphur head softball coach, Heath Gilbert, after his Lady Bulldogs demolished Madill, 28-1, on Monday, in arguably one of the most spectacular performances ever for the team, and it came in their opener.

Sulphur’s Savannah Patrick led the Lady Bulldogs by driving in four runs on three hits. She homered to center filed in the second and singled in the third inning to score one more.

Sulphur got on the board in the top of the first after Sydnie Rolen hit a solo blast over the fence in left field, followed by Destrie Muck’s single to score another run. Sulphur got a third run on an error and Jordyn Johnston singled, scoring two runs as the Lady Bulldogs began their onslaught.

The team went on to score 12 runs on nine hits in the top of the second inning.

Among those blasting away at the plate in that inning were Patrick, Johnston, and a double by Zoli May, who scored three runs.

Also getting on the action included Muck with a single and Kensley Rochelle’s ground out, scoring one.

The onslaught continued in the top of the third as Sulphur scored 11 runs on 10 hits.

Rolin and Muck both doubled scoring two runs each, Rochelle singled, scoring one run, Johnston doubled, scoring one run, Cheyenne Ruth singled, scoring one run, and Addison Johnson grounded out, scoring anther run. Sulphur also got two more runs on errors to round out the big inning.

Sulphur also had a stellar defense as Rochelle began the game, giving up just one run on four his in three innings. She struck out seven. All total, Sulphur collected 23 hits in one of the biggest days ever at the plate as May and Johnston each swatted four hits. Muck, Johnston and Patrick each drove in four runs while Oxley, Rolin and Ruth had multiple hits.

Sulphur’s first home game will be this Thursday against Stratford.
