110 Report For Dog’s Red & White Scrimmage
Days Ticking Down To Sept. 5 Opener vs. Washington
The days are ticking down to what is shaping up as a monumental battle between two of the best football teams in the state, Sulphur and Washington.
The two clubs will meet Friday, Sept. 5 in Sulphur, the Bulldogs hoping to get their first-ever win over the three-time reigning state champion Warriors.
The Dogs are going into the season ranked second in Class 3A, behind last year’s state champion Lincoln Christian and the Warriors are the odds-on favorite to capture their fourth consecutive
2A-1 title, according to at least one preseason poll.
Sulphur and Washington began the series in 2020 with the Dogs

losing all five contests, mostly by incredibly close margins. Last year, a walk-off field goal in the second overtime appeared to give Sulphur their first win, but the kick was ruled just wide and the Dogs was forced to wait another season to get that elusive first win.
Dogs Prep For Opener With Red & White Scrimmage
Now in full-prep mode, position battles are being waged and new plays and new schemes are being inserted into the play book as the team gets ready for their first scrimmage, set this Friday vs. Lindsay Last Saturday, local fans got to see a glimpse of the team at the annual Red and White intra-squad scrimmage, held on the practice field. Head coach Corey Cole liked what he saw play out during the morning session, so the fans were most likely in agreement as well.
“We had a great opening week of football for 2025,” Cole said Monday. “We had a great week of effort and attitude, kids were focused on learning and getting better and our leadership was great week 1.”
Cole said coaches are always trying to get everything they can installed during the first week and get in good conditioning as well. “I really thought our coaches and players were dialed in and attention to detail was great,” he said. “We have a lot of players competing for jobs each and everyday and that’s what you want in your program, great competition brings success.”
As far as the scrimmage was concerned, Cole said it was fast and physical.
“I thought we were really physical and fast in our annual Red and White scrimmage on Saturday morning,” he said. “Several younger players made great impressions on the coaching staff and showed they are ready to compete. We had a great turnout for the intra-squad for both the junior high and high school portions of the scrimmage.”
Although precise records are not readily available, this year’s total number of high school and junior high players who turned out for the scrimmage may be one of the biggest in recent Sulphur history.
“We had 110 kids out competing and getting after it Saturday morning,” said Cole. “I am very proud of the way all groups competed and so thankful for all the people who showed up to not only watch but support the Sulphur Bulldog football teams. We just have to keep working everyday to make sure we are ready for Washington in week one. There are lots of areas that need to get better and improved but I really believe we have the pieces to have a really good football team in 2025.
Fans can get a good perspective on the team this Friday when the Dogs host Lindsay at 7:00 p.m. for their first scrimmage of the season.
