Precipitation is predicted to be above normal for the next 8 to 14 days in this area, according to the NWS.

Fall is coming early to Oklahoma and this area after a cold front plunged temperatures from the mid-90’s to the 60’s on Monday and Tuesday. And not only are the temps going down, but rainfall is in the forecast for the next 10-14 days, according to the National Weather Service office in Norman.

The cool and rainy weather is coming at a great time with high school football games and county fairs statewide starting in the coming days.

The Murray County Free Fair is set to begin Thursday, Sept. 4 and continue through Saturday morning, Sept. 6. (See ad on this page for more information and times for each event.)

This National Weather Service graphic shows temperatures to remain below normal for the next 8 to 14 days.

Fall

Fall sports’ events at Sulphur High School are well underway with football, cross country and fastpitch games and scrimmages in their second week.

The Bulldogs have already completed one scrimmage test last Friday and their second is set at Tecumseh this Thursday in the runup to their opening game on Friday, Sept. 5 as they host three-time state champions, Washington Warriors.

The cooler weather is a welcome break from the hot days the past several weeks while rainfall this time of year is a bonus for farmers, ranchers and fall gardeners.

Light rain began in Sulphur late Monday after the passage of the cold front and by early Tuesday about .63 inches had been received at the Mesonet station, just north of town. More is on the way, according the weather service, with decent chances all the way through Sunday. Labor Day is expected to be dry, but more rain and cool weather could continue into the first week of September.
