Man Charged In Stabbing Outside Bar

Suspect Remains In Jail In Lieu Of $500,000 Bond

A 22-year-old Sulphur man, Kelly James Fisher Johnson, was charged last week with assault and battery with a deadly weapon following a stabbing outside a local bar, according to a Sulphur Police Department incident report and charging documents.

Sulphur officer Dustin Moore, writing in the incident report, said police were dispatched to the Backyard Bar at 615 E. 4th on Saturday, Aug. 23 for an alleged stabbing with several witnesses identifying Johnson as the suspect.

According to document, Johnson fled the scene following the attack. Witnesses said Johnson allegedly used a pocket knife in the attack of a 23-year-old Davis man during an altercation just outside the bar near the parking lot.

The victim was airlifted to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City with what the officer described as collapsed left lung and internal bleeding.

According to Officer Moore, when he arrived at the scene of the alleged attack, he observed multiple people leaving in their vehicles and others calling officers for help with the victim.

By the time Officer Moore arrived, the victim had been carried inside the bar while a male was attempting to stop the bleeding with pressure on his chest, according to the document.

According to the officer, the victim was going “in and out of levels of responsiveness,” and he assisted EMS first responders in loading the victim in the ambulance.

Officer Moore said there appeared to be a scuffle along the grass line on the east side of the gravel parking lot of the bar where he observed droplets of blood.

The witness who helped in stopping the victim’s bleeding said in the incident report he had not seen the stabbing, but assisted in placing the victim on a table where emergency first aide could be used.

According to the officer, there were several other altercations outside the bar among several people.

Another witness told the officer there were two men “assaulting” the victim, one later identified as Johnson, and another as yet unidentified male, according to the document.

Officer Moore said in the report that officers were previously advised of Johnson’s “potential involvement” in a disturbance at the bar on June 8 in which a large fight broke out, but those involved left before law enforcement could arrive.

Another witness with medical training told officers she assisted inside the bar by gathering up towels and getting someone to apply pressure to stop the bleeding.

Yet another witness said when he went outside of the bar, he observed Johnson placing his pocket knife in his pocket, then watched as the suspect “peeled out of the parking lot.”

In another statement to officers, a witness inside the bar said she heard a “commotion outside of the bar” and went to see what was going on and observed the “aggressor” peeling out of the parking lot.

Moore said in the report the bar’s security camera captured a 29-second long video of the alleged altercation.

Johnson remains in Murray County Jail in lieu of a $500,000 bond. His preliminary hearing conference has been set for October 9
