Fleeing Driver Crashes In Davis; Four Teens Critical

Early Sunday Morning Pursuit Reaches Speeds Of 102 MPH In Davis City Limits

Reaching speeds of 102 miles-perhour, a fleeing driver crashed on the east edge of Davis early Sunday, Sept. 14, critically injuring all four teens in the vehicle, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

The four, three of whom are from Carter County, were airlifted to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City, and remain in critical condition, troopers said.

Due to the magnitude of the accident and the number of injuries involved, OHP said Davis Police requested their assistance in investigating the collision. The events that led up to the crash began unfolding about 3:14 a.m. last Sunday when a Murray County Sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop the driver of a Dodge Charger for going 102 MPH in a 50 MPH zone.

Troopers said the driver, identified as Caleb Ryan Cooper, 19, Ardmore, fled into the Davis city limits, traveling eastbound on S.H. 7.

As the driver entered Davis city limits, a Davis Police officer attempted to intercept the vehicle, but was unable to maintain visual contact, according to the patrol.

The patrol said both pursing officers eventually lost sight of the fleeing vehicle and were forced to terminate the pursuit.

Troopers said the vehicle’s driver eventually lost control at the intersection of S.H. 7 and Airport Rd., went off the road on the north side, struck a curb, went airborne, impacted a large drainage ditch, overturned and caught fire. One occupant of the vehicle was ejected, while three others remained inside until they were extricated by Davis first responders, the patrol reported.

According to troopers, the pursing officers were unaware of the collision and continued eastbound toward Sulphur where they eventually terminated the pursuit due to a loss of visual contact.

It was only when one of the victim’s iphones sent out a crash alert about 3:27 a.m. to Murray County E911 of a potential collision at S.H. 7 and Airport Rd., in the Davis city limits, that the crash site was located, the patrol reported.

The patrol identified the crash victims as:

•Caleb Ryan Cooper, 19, Ardmore, the driver of the vehicle.

•Jackson Dale Ammerman, 18, Holmen, Wisconsin, a passenger.

•Morgan Jadan Bernal, 18, Ringling, a passenger.

•Amarah Michelle Grover, 18, Ardmore, a passenger.

All of the victims were admitted to OU Medical Center in critical condition with multiple serious injuries, the patrol reported.

The condition of the driver remains under investigation.
