Sulphur To Host Demons In Key, 3A-2 District Game
Sulphur will need to go fast and physical on both sides of the ball to contain a talent-laden Perkins-Tryon team this Friday, said head Bulldog coach, Corey Cole.
The Dogs will open 3A-2 district play when they host the Demons in a 7:00 p.m. kick at Agee Field.
The Dogs, 3-0, and ranked second in Class 3A behind last year’s state final’s foe, Lincoln Christian, will head into the game facing the number four ranked Demons.
Cole said Perkins-Tryon (2-1) will bring into Sulphur a very talented roster and will play aggressive and physical football.
While losing only to Cushing (38-12), the Demons have scored in the 70’s twice in beating Dewey and Daniel Webster.
Cole said they are led by quarterback Beau Gravitt and running back Wyatt Atkinson, both of whom have put up big numbers so far in the young season.
He said the Demons line up in multiple sets and use a number of formations offensively.
“One of the big keys this week is making sure we get lined up correctly on defense versus their many different looks,” said Cole. “Defensively, the Demons love to use a prowl defense and they are attacking and blitz a ton and cause lots of havoc on opposing offensive lines. It will be imperative that the bulldog offensive line handles all the blitz looks from the very aggressive Perkins defense.”
For Sulphur to win, Cole said it all comes down to handling the pressure, taking care of the football, play fast, physical, and relentless.
“This is huge test this Friday in a very tough district,” he said. “We have to be ready for the big moment.”
The Dogs are fresh off impressive wins over defending state champions, Washington and Davis, and Class 4A’s Cache last week, making this game another big one for Coach Cole and his team.
