Sulphur’s fastpitch team wound down the regular season on Monday, edging Tishomingo, 5-4, and will now focus their efforts on the upcoming Class 4A Regional Tournament which starts Thursday.
The Lady Bulldogs will travel to Elk City for the three-team regionals with the winner advancing on to the next round of play.
The Lady Bulldogs (15-11) will hook up with Harrah (12-17) in the first round of the tournament set for Thursday, Oct. 2 at 11:00 a.m. The winner will face off with regional champ Elk City at 1:00 p.m. in a double elimination series that goes through Friday.
The Lady Bulldogs ended their regular season with a flurry of wins, two over Ada, and one over Tish with the lone loss coming at the hands of Newcastle, all in the last seven days.
Sulphur began their final week of play on September 22 with a home and away series against Ada, beating them in the first game, 15-4, and winning the second, 11-0.
In the first game at Sulphur, the Lady Bulldog’s Kinsley Rochelle drove in four runs on two hits to lead the girls to victory. Rochelle hit a home run in the fifth inning that scored three runs and doubled in the sixth to score another run. She also led the Sulphur team from the mound, striking out 15 while surrendering only five hits and four runs.
Other Lady Bulldogs getting into the mix included Zoli May, Jordyn Johnston, Destrie Muck and Landri Oxley. All four were responsible for five runs on six hits in the top of the third. Muck and Oxley each had doubles.
The Lady Bulldogs smashed 15 hits in the win. In the second game, Cheyenne Ruth led the Sulphur girls with 10 strikeouts as the local girls blanked the Lady Cougars, 11-0. Ruth gave up just two hits over five innings of play.
A seven-run second inning led the Sulphur girls to victory, mainly after five Lady Bulldog batters drew walks sprinkled in with a hit from Oxley.
In the bottom of the third, Muck singled and Ada committed an error, leading to another run.
Leading Sulphur at the plate were Rochelle, Oxley, Muck, Johnston and Ruth, each with one hit.
Ada walked 11 in the game while May stole two bases as the local girls ran wild on the bases, getting four thefts in the game.
Last Thursday, despite blasting six hits against Newcastle, the Lady Dogs fell to the Racers, 6-3, on their home turf.
Leading Sulphur from the plate were Rochelle, Oxley, Collins, Elisha Reagle, Sydnie Rolin and May, each with one hit.
Sulphur tied the game in the top of the fourth at 2-2 on a single from Collins.
The Lady Bulldogs then took the lead in the top of fifth as Rolin singled, scoring a run to make it a 3-2 affair.
However, Newcastle reestablished the lead in the bottom fifth after a single scored two runs.
Rochelle gave up just four hits in the game, three earned, over six innings. She struck out four and walked four. Collins, Reagle, and Rolin each drove in one run for the Lady Bulldogs.
In Sulphur’s final regular season game, the Lady Bulldogs collected a 5-4 win over Tishomingo.
