Win At Victory Christian Seals The Deal For 9-0 Sulphur Team
Sulphur scored on every possession and pitched their second consecutive shutout in blowout win at Victory Christian last Friday, overwhelming a young Conqueror team, 59-0.
The win gave the Bulldogs their second consecutive District 3A-2 title, ensuring them of a first-round home playoff game.
The Dogs (9-0, 6-0) were simply too much for VC as they played to a high level on the road in Tulsa.
“I was so proud of our kids and the way they handled business last Friday night at Victory Christian,” sad head coach, Corey Cole. “We had challenged them to take things to a higher level on the long trip and they did just that.”
For Sulphur, quarterback Kale Brakefield had a big night throwing the ball. He completed 13 of 14 passes for 255 yards and four TDs. Linebacker, Kash Pickett, also had a big night with eight tackles as the Dogs yielded only 49 total yards to the Conquerors. Sulphur’s explosive offense scored on the very first play with Bridge Barrett hauling in a 50yard strike from Brakefield. The scoring continued on the next offensive series as Maddax Mobly went in from 11 yards out just over two minutes into the game.
“Offensively, we took care of the ball and scored on every possession, we were more explosive and had a lot of big plays, we were great on special teams again and that has been a huge advantage for us so far this season,” said Cole. “We played with incredible tempo and played a very physical brand of football. Our kids were very motivated to win the district championship and they were focused all week long and determined to make it happen. I can’t stress enough how well this group handles everything, they work extremely hard at everything they do, hold each other accountable as teammates in every facet, and represent the Bulldog culture with class every week.”
Brakefield’s big production night at quarterback and Barrett’s 126 yards in receptions and two scores drew praise from the coach. Another Dog getting in on the offensive feast was Maddax Mobly, who had 89 yards and two TDs on only six touches. Also with big production numbers were Carter Cole and Colten Cole. Colten had 3 receptions for 30 yards and a score and Carter Cole added 102 all purpose yards and a score as well. Jojoj Gray added 73 yards and a score and Jackson Haggard added another 40 on the ground.
As a team, the Dogs recorded 14 tackles for loss and two pass interceptions with George Martinez leading the way with three tackles for loss and Madden Duck and Connor Sullivan with two each. Bridge Barrett and Mavric Lowrance chipped in with the two interceptions.
Cole said his defensive line continued their great play of late with Cooper Cole, Colten Cole, Grady Hardoin, Dylan Gleason, Connor Sullivan, and George Martinez all playing at a high level last Friday.
“I was very impressed with our special teams and the way they have been playing the last several weeks,” said Cole. “We made all 8 of our extra points and Colten Cole added a 29-yard field goal as time expired at the half. Our kickoff coverage continues to be one of the best units on the field every Friday night, they have been outstanding in that phase of the game. I was really proud of Harley Peters getting in there at the end and making his first career high school extra point, he has worked really hard at kicking extra points and to see him get into game action and deliver was a moment we will all never forget.”
Cole said his team staying focused and determined were the reasons they won their second consecutive district title. “Outside of a few bad offside penalties, I thought we dominated the game in every area.”
Sulphur’s district title win last Friday was their 13th since 1970, according to Cole. He said to his knowledge they’ve won district championships in: 1974, 1984, 1990, 1993, 1998, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2008, 2017, 2018, 2024, and now 2025. Their two state championship wins came in 2002 and 2004.
