Board Of Education Sets Election Date

The Sulphur Board of Education approved the annual Sulphur School Board Election Resolution at their regular monthly meeting Monday night.

The election, if necessary, will be for board office no. 1, currently held by Cliff Agee.

Filing for the election will begin Monday, Dec.1 at 8:00 a.m. and will end on Wednesday, Dece.3 at 5:00 p.m.

Members also approved a $1,000 retention stipend for all certified and support staff members in the district.

In light of the federal government shut down, Superintendent Matt Holder told the board the suspension of SNAP benefits will not affect the school breakfast and lunch program.

Superintendent Holder told members the district is in a good financial position with more than $7 million cash available in all funds combined. Holder told members the investments of some of the funds are still reaping good interest yields from CD’s and Sweep Accounts.

Holder also reported that expenditures for the year so far are down. He reported that a new cell phone law in Oklahoma went into affect on November 1. The law prohibits the use of hand held cell phones in school and work zones.

Athletic Director Corey Cole reported the Sulphur Bulldogs clinched the 3A-2 District Championship in the win over Victory Christian last Friday. Cole said the final regular season game will be this Friday vs. Mannford at home. Prior to the game, approximately 40 senior students in football, cheerleading and band will be recognized prior to kick-off. A pep rally will be held Friday morning with Channel 9 in attendance beginning at 9:15 a.m. at the football field.

Cole also reported Cross Country teams finished the season on a high note with good placing at the state tournament.

Cole reported the high school cheerleaders will compete in the Game Day Competition Meet this Saturday.

Elementary principal Shannon Muck introduced four specialty teachers in the elementary building, who updated members on new curriculum and teaching tools in their respective classes. The classes included PE, music, computer lab and the librarian.

SIS principal John Mann and SMS Principal Steven Pyle reported of November activities scheduled for their buildings and on several activities held last month.

In other agenda action, board members approved the following:

•creating an activity account for the WorkAdjustment Training Program;

•closing the Trap Shoot account and transferring all remaining funds to the FFA account; and

•the schedule for regular Board of Education meetings in 2026.

Following a short executive session, with no action taken, members returned to the meeting and approved the employment of Christy Wright as a SES paraprofessional.

All five board members were present at the meeting.
