Team To Face Holland Hall Under The Friday Night Lights
Southern Oklahoma fans who enjoy great football can see two powerful teams come together this Friday night at Calvin Agee Field in Sulphur in the quarterfinal round of the Class 3A playoffs.
The undefeated Bulldogs will host the 10-1 Holland Hall Dutch in a game that is shaping up to be one of the best in the state.
The Bulldogs began their season by taking down two reigning state champions, Washington and Davis, then plowed through a tough schedule undefeated to make it to this point.
Sulphur’s starting defense has not been scored upon since week six against Lone Grove and their offense has put up some big numbers against top flight opponents throughout the season. The team’s closest game was a 22-point win over District foe, Perkins-Tryon, a team that is also playing this Friday night in the quarterfinal round against Cascia Hall.
Holland Hall, out of the Tulsa area, also has put up some big numbers. The team finished second in District 3A-3, their only loss was to last year’s state champion, Lincoln Christian, in the fifth game of the season.
Of course, Lincoln Christian is no stranger to Sulphur after slipping past the Bulldogs in last year’s state championship game, 28-27. Near the end of the game, Sulphur was stopped inches short on a two-point extra point attempt that could likely have won the Bulldogs their third gold ball.
But Sulphur must take care of business this Friday to have any chance at making the title game and will be facing a very tough opponent.
Head Sulphur coach, Corey Cole said his team must perform at their peak to have any chance at winning, and they must cut out the mistakes that hurt them last week, although the Bulldogs found a way to completely overwhelm Anadarko last Friday night, 63-12.
