Sulphur Bulldogs Gunning For Third State Football Championship In Rematch vs. Lincoln Christian

The Sulphur Bulldogs will make their fifth appearance in the state football championship game in a noon Saturday kickoff at Chad Richison Stadium in Edmond.

Sulphur swept past Perkins-Tyron last Friday nigh in the semifinals to earn their coveted spot in the championship game while Lincoln Christian downed Heritage Hall on the same night to earn their ticket to the big dance.

The two Bulldog teams will meet in a rematch of last year’s 28-27 thriller where Sulphur failed by inches to convert a two-point conversion near the end of the game that likely would have given them the gold ball.

In a statement this week, Sulphur head coach, Corey Cole, heaped praise on his opponent, who is coming into the game with 41-game winning streak.

Said Cole, “They are big and physical up front and have arguably the most electric offense in Oklahoma.”

Cole also said this week that after their loss to LC last December, that date was circled and players reminded of the hard work it takes to pull off a championship win.

Sulphur will be gunning for their third title this Saturday after winning in 2002 and 2004. They were runner-up in 2003 and last year in the narrow loss to LC.

Cole reached out to his fan base this week asking for their support this Saturday. “Bulldog Nation, we need you one more week - you have been there for us all year, let’s all go be great this Saturday, he said.”

There are a couple of activities this week in the run-up to Saturday’s game.

On Wednesday evening, a pep rally will be held inside at Crossway Church beginning at 8:00 p.m., and then on Friday, a pep assembly will be held at the school at 1:45 p.m.

The team buses will leave out of Sulphur about 8:05 a.m. on Saturday, according to Cole.
