SPORTS’ YEAR IN REVIEW
The 2025 year in Sulphur sports was capped off in mid-December when the Sulphur Bulldogs won their second consecutive silver ball, losing in the state championship game to Lincoln Christian, 24-21, in another epic thriller between the two clubs.
Sulphur sports’ teams overall enjoyed a tremendous amount of success throughout the year, according to athletic director, Corey Cole, who outlined the 2024-25 achievements in a May, 2025 article in the Times-Democrat.
Here is a brief overview of the 2025 season in Sulphur sports: HOST OF PLAYERS SIGN COLLEGE DEALS Among some of those achievements included the signing of 13 athletes who inked deals to play collegiately, which was a record number for Sulphur.
Seven of the signees came from the 2024 Bulldog football team and the remaining six were scattered among other sports.
Those signing to extend their careers included: Caden Cole (Football, UCO), Austin Garrett (Football, SOSU), Gideon Petersen (Football, SOSU), Maddux Boyd (Football, OBU), Justus Gilliam (Football, NSU), Eli Vinson (Football, SWOSU), Luke Linville (Football & Baseball, SNU), Baer Webb (Wrestling, Ottawa University), Kaleb Madron (Track/Cross Country, Murray State),, Paisley Eason (Golf, OBU), Noah Carr (Lacrosse), Jacey Pitmon (Cheer, SOSU), Keeley Little (Cheer, SOSU) Since those signings, several others inked deals for next-level play. They included: Korbin Mayo, who signed with Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva where he will compete in track and cross country; and Zak Kirk, who signed with Murray State where he will compete in cross country.
SIX NAMED TO OCA All-STATE TEAM Overall, six Sulphur athletes and a coach were named to the Oklahoma Coaches Association All-State teams.
They included: Austin Garrett (Football), Justus Gilliam (Football), Baer Webb (Wrestling), Landon Jones (Wrestling), Gracie Ratchford (Slow Pitch Softball), Paisley Eason (Golf), Caden Cole (OCA Reg. 5 Male Scholar Athlete of the Year), and Coach Corey Cole (Region 5 OCA Football Coach of the Year).
FOUR WIN INDIVIDUAL STATE TITLES Four Sulphur athletes won individual state titles. They included: Eli Vinson (trackpole vault), Nash Williamson (powerlifting), Conner Sullivan (powerlifting) and Zoli May (powerlifting).
THREE WIN RUNNER-UP STATE TITLES Three Bulldogs won runner- up state titles. They included: Baer Webb (wrestling), Austin Garrett (powerlifting) and Grady Hardoin (track-hurdles). SULPHUR HAS TWO STATE CHAMPION TEAMS Sulphur’s boys and girls powerlifters each won a state title last spring in powerlifting as they continue to dominate in that sport.
OTHER SULPHUR STATE QUALIFIERS:
•The cheer team qualified for state in both game-day and competition.
•The cross country qualified both boys and girls teams for state cross country meet.
•The boys basketball finished one game away from the area tournament.
•Girls Golf team qualified for state meet.
•Wrestling had 8 individual qualifiers for state tournament.
•9 Female Track athletes qualified for state
•9 Male Track Athletes Qualifi ed for State. Following is a week-by-week overview of the 2025 season in sports.
Jan. 16--Bulldogs win Lindsay basketball tournament; wrestlers third in Tuttle meet.
Jan. 23--Bulldogs third in Washington basketball meet; wrestlers second in regional dual meet.
Feb. 6--Sulphur powerlifters begin season with meet wins.
Feb. 13--Seven football players sign for next-level play; powerlifters win second consecutive meet.
Feb. 20--Coach Corey Cole receives Region 5 Coach of the Year Award; Bridge Barrett scores career 1,000th point in basketball; Lady Dog powerlifters win second consecutive meet.
Feb. 27--Seven Dogs advance to state wrestling meet; boys win district basketball title.
March 6--Wrestlers win three medals at state. They were: Baer Webb 2nd, Maddax Mobly 3rd, and Landon Jones 4th; basketball team exits state playoffs.
March 13--Lady Bulldogs win large school state powerlifting title; baseball team bolts to 5-1 start.
March 20--Bulldog powerlifters win 8th state championship; Oklahoma School for the Deaf cheer team wins National Deaf Cheer competition in New York City; boys 4th, girls 2nd in Rock Creek Track Invitational track meet in Sulphur.
April 3--Eli Vinson sets school record in pole vault with leap of 14-1; Lady Dogs first in Dickson golf meet; Dogs win second in Sulphur golf meet.
April 10--Baseball team beats Ardmore twice; girls set school records in 800 meter run, and 4x800 relay. Jayden Lee set the 800 record (2:19) and the team of Lee, Paxtyn Hiser, Kate Woods, and Rory McMillan set the relay record (10:19).
April 17--Girls win Marlow track meet, boys win second; Paisley Eason signs with OBU golf.
April 24--Kaleb Madron breaks school record in 800 (1:57.61), Dogs 2nd in Durant track meet; Lady Bulldog Rory McMillan breaks school record in 1,600 (5:44.63), realy team of Lee, Hiser, McMillan and Woods set school record in 3,200 (10:16.91), girls win third in meet; May 1--Lady Bulldogs (Jordyn Johnston, Keagan Scott, Paisley Eason, Landry Couch, Emrie Williams, and Reagan Watson win regional golf meet. The team is coached by Linn Marshall and assisted by Taylor Beatley.
May 8--Boys 3rd, girls 4th in regional track meet.
May 15--In state track meet, Eli Vinson wins pole vault title (14-0), Landy DeArman 5th, Grady Hardoin 2nd in 300 hurdles (39.63), the Dog’s Kaleb Madron and Lady Bulldog Jayden Lee both win 4th in 800 run, Riley Priest 6th with school record leap (9-6).
May 22-Sulphur’s top athletes honored at annual banquet; five Bulldogs named to 4A-3 All-District Baseball Team (Luke Linville, Cash Matlack, and Carter Cole 1st team honorees, Jett Runyan and Kaden Seitz, won honorable mention).
June 26--Denton Miller hired as new Sulphur baseball coach; Will Coffman hired to lead Sulphur as football offensive coordinator.
July 3--Head Sulphur football coach, Corey Clole, named as Oklahoma Football Coach of the Year; Gracie Ratchford makes softball All-State.
July 10--Bulldogs begin preparations for 2025 football season.
July 17--Keeley Little makes All-State in cheerleading.
Aug. 21--110 Report out for Sulphur football practice; head softball coach, Heath Gilbert, wins 300th career game.
Aug. 28--Dogs begin football season in scrimmage at Lindsay; cross country teams open season; Lady Dog’s softball team wins two.
Sept. 4--Cross country teams win Madill meet with seven medalists.
Sept. 11--Dogs end Washington’s 45-game win streak in football; girls win 3rd consecutive cross country meet, boys win 2nd place.
Sept. 18--Dogs take down Davis in 2nd win over reining state football champion.
Sept. 25--Dogs swamp Cache, 42-7; softball team wins three games; cross country teams each win Holdenville meet.
Oct. 2--Dogs overpower Perkins-Tryon for first district football win.
Oct. 9--Winning streak continues for Dogs in blowout over McLoud; girls 4th, boys 9th in Arkansas CC meet.
Oct. 16--Big effort gives Dogs win over Lone Grove; Lady Dogs 2nd, boys 3rd in LCC cross country meet; three runners (Jayden Lee, Hannah Hail and Morgan Brown) named to All-Conference Cross Country teams.
Oct. 23--Dogs stay undefeated with win over Bristow; both cross country teams win regional runner-up titles.
Oct. 30--Dogs clamp down on Seminole in weather-shortened game; cross country teams each win 7th in state meet.
Nov. 6--In win over Victory Christian, Dogs win 2nd consecutive 3A-2 football title.
Nov. 13--Sulphur wins 10th consecutive game vs. Mannford, and is only third team in modern school history to go undefeated in regular season.
Nov. 20--Dogs overwhelm Anadarko in first round of playoffs. Nov. 27--Holland Hall becomes second playoff team to fall to Bulldogs in 77-28 beatdown.
Dec. 11--Dogs sweep past Perkins-Tryon in semifinals, setting stage for big championship rematch vs. Lincoln Christian.
Dec. 18--In anther epic thriller, Sulphur loses to Lincoln Christian in state finals, 24-21, and collects second consecutive silver ball.
Jan. 2, 2026--11 Sulphur players named to Class 3A-2All-District team as Maddax Mobly gets MVP nod. Players chosen for the award were: Mobly, Bridge Barrett (Defensive Back of the Year), Colten Cole (Special Teams Player of the Year), Cooper Cole (Defensive Lineman of the Year), Brody Wallace (Offensive Lineman of the Year), Kale Brakefield (All-Dist. Quarterback), Connor Sullivan (1st Team All-Dist. Lineman), Jayden McClure (1st Team All-Dist. Linebacker), Jason Gleason (1st TeamAll-Dist. Defensive Lineman), Grady Hardoin (2nd Team All-Dist. Back), and Dylan Gleason (2nd Team All-Dist. Lineman).

Winning individual place medals in the state lifting meet in March were, from left, Addy Hardoin, Olivia Cox, Gracie Ratchford, Zoli May and Destrie Muck. The five helped the Lady Bulldogs win their first state powerlifting title.
