Sulphur School Superintendent Set To Begin 8th Year
Matt Holder will remain as the Sulphur Public Schools Superintendent for another year.
Board members approved the rehire at the regular monthly meeting Monday night.
Holder is currently in his seventh year and July 2026, he will begin his eight year at the reins.
Holder previously served as Sulphur as a principal before leaving and joining the State Department of Education for a number of years before returning as here as Superintendent.
Even though the total cash funds balance total stood at more than 6 million dollars at the end of December 2025, Holder said typically this is lowest time of the years for fund balances since the county ad valorem tax payments had not been received.
Holder also noted that over enrollment was down slightly for the second year in a row.
Holder thanked and praised the board members for their service and commitment to the district sighting Board Member Recognition Night.
In the absence of the athletic direct, High School Principal Clete Cole updated members on the boys and girls basketball and wrestling teams. Cole said power lifting is gearing up as well as softball, baseball and track for the spring.
In the principals reports, all four building principals were present and outlined their program and agenda for the teacher professional development day next Monday.
Students will not report to school on Monday, January 19, in observance of Martin Luther King Day.

Members approved the quarterly class size capacities report as well as adding Jacey Pitmon to the substitute list.
Action on Brock Barrett as an adjunct elementary school music teacher was approved by the board.
Following a brief executive session, members returned to regular meeting and in addition to the rehire of Holder, approved the resignation of Brenda Franklin and approved an extra duty stipend for the school resource officer.
All five members were present at the meeting.
