Six Boys, Three Girls Qualify For State Tourney

Dog’s Mobly, Lady Bulldog’s Thomas Win Regional Mat Titles

Six Sulphur boys and three Lady Bulldogs qualified for the state wrestling tournament in Oklahoma City this weekend after competing in regional tournaments last week Sulphur’s contingent will be led by the Dog’s Maddax Mobly (175), and the Lady Bulldog’s Jolee Thomas (125). Both won the championship of their respective regionals, the boys at the Class 4A East Regional in Cushing and the girl’s at the Class 5A West Regional in Weatherford.

In addition to Mobly, Noah Heitland (113), and Jonah Cole (132) return as state qualifiers for Bulldogs after their performances in the Class 4A division last year. Heitland won second last weekend in Cushing while Cole won fifth.

Other boy’s state qualifiers are Tristan Barnes (126), a second place winner, Brody Wallace (285), 4th place, and Grady Hardoin (165), a fifth place winner.

The boys had three sixth place winners, Lady DeArman (138), Colton Reigal (144), and Michael Morris (215). The will serve as alternates to the state meet.

Following Thomas, the Sulphur girls were paced by Parker Wynn (190), 2nd, and Bintlee Burch (145), 4th.

Burch is a repeat qualifier after placing third in last year’s regional. As a team, the boys won fifth place among the top 20 teams in the east regional.

Bristow won the boy’s east regional with 259 points, followed by Ft. Gibson 201, Berryhill 191, Cushing 189, Sulphur 156, Inola 119.5, Poteau 117.5, Skiatook 113, Jay 112, and Wagoner 76.5.

The state– tournament will get going this Thursday at 6:00 p.m., with the wrestle-in matches, followed by the first round at 9:30 a.m. on Friday.

Also on Friday will be the wrestle-back round at 5:00 p.m. and the semifinals at 7:30 p.m.

On Saturday, the consolation semifinals will begin at 9:30 a.m., followed by the third and fourth place matches at noon and the finals at 6:30 p.m.

All matches will be held at the State Fairgrounds Arena in Oklahoma City.

Three Sulphur High School girls qualified for this weekend’s state wrestling tournament in Oklahoma City. The there are, from left, Parker Wynn, Jolee Thomas, and Bintlee Burch. The three qualified at last week’s Class 5A West Regional meet in Weatherford that included a total of 44 teams. Thomas captured first place in the regionals, wrestling at 125 pounds, while Wynn was second at 190 pounds and Burch was fourth place at 145 pounds.
