School Record 18 Sulphur Lifters Qualify For State Tournament This Week In El Reno

The Sulphur Bulldogs will look to continue a historic run this week as they pursue their ninth consecutive state powerlifting championship at the Oklahoma State Powerlifting Championships March 12–13 in El Reno. The team will compete in the large school division.

Sulphur will send an impressive 18 lifters to the state meet after a strong regional qualifying, tying the school record for the most athletes ever advancing to the state championships.

Head coach Keith Garrett praised his team’s effort and depth following the qualifying performances.

“This ties the record for our school for number of lifters qualifying for the state meet,” Garrett said. “Congratulations men! Job well done.”

Leading the way for Sulphur are qualifiers across nearly every weight class, showcasing the program’s strength from the lighter divisions to heavyweight competition.

123-pound class: Manuel Gonzalez 132-pound class: Daniel Gonzalez 157-pound class: Grady Hardoin, Drew Brinson 168-pound class: Cooper Cole, Madden Duck 181-pound class: Dylan Gleason, JoJo Gray, Landon Woods 198-pound class: Jackson Haggard, Trenton Whitehead, Thomas Jackson 220-pound class: Britton McKinley 242-pound class: Jason Gleason, AJ Gordon 275-pound class: Connor Sullivan, Caden Frost Heavyweight class: Kaedyn Howe With qualifiers spread throughout the lineup, Sulphur enters the state meet with both depth and experience — two key ingredients that have fueled the Bulldogs’ championship streak.

If Sulphur can capture another title in El Reno, the Bulldogs will extend one of the most dominant runs in Oklahoma high school powerlifting history to nine straight state championships.

Competition begins March 12 and continues through March 13, where Sulphur’s lifters will attempt to once again prove why the Bulldogs remain the standard in Oklahoma powerlifting.
