The Sulphur Bulldogs proved they belong among Oklahoma’s elite programs last week, navigating a brutal stretch of competition with poise and production. Facing multiple district leaders across Classes 3A and 4A, Sulphur rattled off four impressive wins— two over 4A-1 leader Bethany, plus victories against Marlow and Mount St. Mary—before suffering a setback at Tuttle on Monday.

The week’s performance pushed the Bulldogs to an outstanding 25-3 record, showcasing both depth and resilience against some of the state’s top teams.

Sulphur 6, Bethany 1

Sulphur opened the stretch last Monday, April 11 with a 6-1 win over Bethany (14-10), backed by a complete-game effort from Michael Morris. The right-hander scattered five hits and allowed just one run over seven innings while striking out three. Colten Cole provided a spark at the plate with a solo home run in the fifth inning, while Morris and Carter Cole each collected two hits. Morris, Traber Sartors, Carter Cole, Maddax Mobly, and Colten Cole each drove in one run. The Bulldogs were aggressive on the basepaths as well, swiping five bases in the victory.

Sulphur accumulated nine hits in the game. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, piling up eight walks for the game. Drake Wood stole three bases.

Sulphur 7, Marlow 5

Sulphur then turned its attention to Marlow (23-4), the top team in 3A-1, and came away with a hard-fought 7-5 win last Thursday.

Sartors also had an RBI double in the second inning to tie the game at 1-1. Colten Cole had a sacrifice fly to score Carter Cole to take the lead 2-1 in the third. Sulphur captured the lead, 5-3, in the top of the fourth when Carter Cole singled, scoring two runs, and Wood grounded out, scoring one run.

Marlow hit a homer to tie the game, 5-5, then Sulphur answered back to take the lead 7-5 top of the fifth.

Sulphur 7, Mount St. Mary 6

The week’s most dramatic moment came Friday against Mount St. Mary in a round-robin meet at Davis. Trailing 6-1 in the fourth inning, the Bulldogs mounted a furious comeback and eventually walked off with a 7-6 victory in the 10th inning. Mobly delivered the game-winning hit, scoring the decisive run and capping a thrilling rally.

The Dogs pounded out 13 hits, with Mobly leading the charge with three hits. Cole drove in three runs, while Morris and Sartors also turned in multi-hit performances. Brady Foster was stellar in relief, allowing just one hit and one unearned run over more than six innings to earn the win.

Sartors opened the game for the Dogs. The lefty surrendered one hit and five runs (zero earned) over three and two-thirds innings, striking out three. Sulphur amassed 13 hits in the game. Mobly led the team with three hits in four at-bats. Cole went 2-for-5 at the plate and led the team with three runs batted in. Morris and Sartors each collected multiple hits for Sulphur Bulldogs.

Sulphur 2, Tuttle 11

The Dogs couldn’t keep their win streak going on Monday and lost to league leader Tuttle (25-4), 11-2, on their home diamond. The Tigers were set to come into Sulphur on Tuesday where a district championship will be on the line. (See results in next week’s issue). The Bulldogs now look to bounce back quickly, with a chance at redemption as the Tigers travel to Sulphur to complete the homeand- home series.

Despite the setback, Sulphur’s body of work last week sent a clear message: the Bulldogs can go toe-to-toe with anyone. With the postseason approaching, the experience gained against top-tier competition could prove invaluable as Sulphur eyes a deep playoff run.

“This was a great week vs. great competition,” said head coach Denton Miller. “Our guys, all the way through the lineup, compete until the very last out. We hope to carry this momentum to Tuttle when we take on the Tigers for the district championship.”
